The African War Medal 1940-1945


Awarded to officers and other ranks of the armed forces which, during at least one year between 10 May1940 and 7 May 1945, served in the "Force Publique" (probably best described as a colonial armed force).

Instituted by the Prince-Regent Karel on 30 January 1947, this medal could be embellished with a maximum of 4 bars : Nigerie, Moyen-Orient (Middle East), Madagascar and Birmanie. Air crew received a double wing on the ribbon for service in an operational or a transport air unit.

The medal's reverse is plain.
