Germany
It would be quite superfluous to go into the German WW2 awards in any depth on this page as so many websites on the topic already exist. I've therefore limited myself to listing a single link to an outstanding site on this topic and describing the one medal which often seems to be forgotten ... a German Democratic Republic (DDR) medal which was awarded for resistance against Nazism.
Medal for Combattants against Fascism, 1933-1945 This silvered medal has on its obverse a legend which can be translated as "Combattants against Fascism". The reverse text stands for "Forwards and not forgetting 1933-1945". Instituted in 1959, this medal served to reward those Germans that took part in the resistance against fascism in Germany or abroad between 1933 and 1945. It can also be found hanging from a rectangular ribbon bar. |
