Japan
The Great East Asia War Medal
Although one of the major nations in WW2, Japan only instituted this single campaign medal on 21 June 1944. After the Japanese surrender, unawarded medals were destroyed, making genuine originals rather rare. Consequently copies of this medal have been produced. The characters on the ribbon bar stand for "War Medal" while the reverse characters mean "Great East Asia War". |
