Transjordan

 

Short historical note

The Principality of Transjordan (now the Jordanian Kingdom) was an ally of Great Britain during the war and provided troops from the Arab Legion to fight, alongside British forces, mainly against the Vichy French in Iraq and Syria.


The 1941 Medal

Transjordan 1941 Campaign Medal

Some 300 of this rare silver medal were awarded to members of the Arab Legion. The medal's obverse shows the badge of the legion, a crown above 2 crossed scimitars superimposed on two laurel branches. The reverse has a crown over an Arabic inscription meaning "In memory of the combined operations of the war" with the date "1360" (AD 1941) below. The medal hangs from a crimson ribbon with three edge stripes, black, white and dark green.
