Distinguished himself particularly, on 10 June 1953 at Chatkol, by voluntarily remaining in the enemy's positions for 24 hours after a daring raid. As a result of this audacious raid, he returned with important information on enemy units hitherto unknown.

Has successfully lead a patrol in the no-man's land north of the Han river, through the mined area of Tukto on 14 March 1951 and brought back proof of the enemy's withdrawal there. On 23 March, while guarding the left flank of the battalion with his platoon, he with great difficulty maintained contact with the unit to his left by continuously walking the rocky mountain top that dominates the regimental positions. During the simultaneous clearing of the range, he managed to take prisoner two important communist leaders. On 21 April 1951 he returns from a patrol with his platoon bringing the first intelligence of the southward move of Chinese troops in front of the Imjin positions, i.e. the first warning of the enemy offensive of 23 April.

Always returned fully equipped although authorized to abandon his weapon when disengaging. Had already distinguished himself as a volunteer during the reinforcement work on the Olga outpost (Carol) between 10 - 13 April 1953.

During the enemy offensive of April 1951, while in a platoon on a particularly dangerous patrol, was ambushed and commanded his section with coolness, calm and exceptional judgement. Wounded by a bullet in close combat, he still helped 5 men to escape death from the enemy who attacked with bayonets. Only managed to save his own life through swimmingacross the river that separated him from friendly positions.

Always, on his own initiative went forward to the Advance Aid Station whenever increasing artillery shelling signalled imminent action in our sector, in order to more quickly minister to the wounded. Saved the lives of many wounded through his quick and efficient interventions, particularly at Chatkol, during the violent and victorious battles in March-April 1953 against an agressive and fanatic enemy.

During the attack on 18 - 19 April 1953 at Chatkol, he showed a total disregard for danger and an exemplary sense of sacrifice while completing his mission under extremely heavy bombardments.

Was awarded the Bronze Star for services rendered.

Distinguished himself again at Chatkol, on 3 July 1953, during a raid on a Chinese outpost. He was severely wounded during the assault on this outpost.
